About Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve
Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is situated in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, in central India. Known for its diverse wildlife and dry deciduous forests, the reserve is an important destination for tiger conservation and wildlife tourism.
Tadoba National Park was established in 1955, while the Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1986. The two areas were subsequently combined to form Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve under India’s Project Tiger initiative.
The name Tadoba comes from the local deity Tadoba, also known as Taru, worshipped by tribal communities in the region. The Andhari River, which flows through the forest, gives the reserve its second name.
