About Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of Maharashtra’s most important wildlife destinations and a part of India’s Project Tiger conservation programme. The reserve takes its name from the local deity Tadoba, also known as Taru, worshipped by tribal communities in the region, and the Andhari River, which flows through the forest.

Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1935, Tadoba was declared a national park in 1955. Its forests are dominated by teak and other dry deciduous tree species, including ain, bija, dhauda, haldu, tendu, and bamboo. Moist forest areas support trees such as jamun, mango, and arjun.

The reserve provides habitat for an impressive variety of wildlife, including Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, Indian gaurs, wild boars, sambar deer, chital, barking deer, nilgai, and wild dogs. Visitors may also encounter marsh crocodiles and several smaller mammals, depending on the season and location.

Tadoba’s rich biodiversity and reputation for tiger sightings make it a popular choice for travellers seeking an authentic Indian wildlife safari. However, wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, as animals move freely in their natural habitat.
